Play of objects
installation (theaterlamp, tripod, paint, wood, metal, videoscreen)
‘Bang Bang’, Witte Moor, Ghent (BE)
The installation plays with a deconstruction of the still life and the interaction and relation towards objects and image.
In the darkened exhibition space a table is encountered, with a blanc white table top.
It seems as though a beam of daylight enters the room from a window above. Upon entering the room it becomes clear that it is a theater lamp on a tripod that illuminates the table.
On a video screen positioned at the entrance a series of mind excercises are presented:
Think of an object you've touched today.
Create an image of this object in your mind.
Now think about the origin/ function/ formal properties of and your relation to the object.
(For instance ask yourself:
is this object your property? does it belong to a set of multiple objects? is it manufactured? is it unique? does it have a practical use? will you touch it again? did you like touching it? does light play on the surface of this object?)
Imagine your object on this blank tabletop.
Enjoy your imaginary still life.
Feel free to combine your still life with that of others next to you.
