Nach meiner Ansicht is a project in which three Google image searches on ‘nach + meiner + ansicht’ are laboriously archived as printed image collections. The parameters of the search are further specified as to look for photographic images and to select those that where uploaded to the internet up to 24 hours on the moment of the performed search.
For each search a selection of the image search results are re-photographed from the computer screen with an analog camera and are then hand printed on black and white postcard paper in a dark room. These ‘slices in time’ are kept in specially made boxes stating the number of postcards, the date and hour of the search and a brief description of the work process. The sizes of the boxes vary in height according to the number of postcards that are inside.
The words “Nach meiner Ansicht” translate to English as “in my opinion” and hint at the subjective experience of obtaining results in a search engine. Furthermore it connects to the postcard (also ansichtkaart in Dutch); the traveling image, which the postcards can become in a literal way, as opposed to digital online photographs that are instable and immaterial while appearing at various locations and thus traveling in their own way. Last, ansicht means picture but also surface or frontal view.
